NEW MUSIC UNVEILED BY CHOCOLATE CITY MUSIC

At a press conference this morning, the Chocolate City Group this morning unveiled two music labels Super Cool Cats and JagzNation as record label imprints under the popular Chocolate City Music label; becoming the first African record label to follow in the footsteps of international heavy weights such as Universal Music and Sony Music Group.
The two labels are owned and headed by Ice Prince and Jesse Jagz respectively.
At the press conference, Chocolate City Music CEO – Jude “MI” Abaga, answered the questions of press men and tackled live questions from fans on social media who were keen to know how the relationship between Chocolate City Music, Ice Prince and Jesse Jagz would unfold going forward.
According to M.I, the breaking away of two of the most popular artistes on the label is not a destruction of Chocolate City, but an investment in the two new imprints towards building an empire emphasizing that this announcement has been in the works for months and it is easier for both prolific artistes to keep up with the pace of their creativity when under their own independent labels.
According to Ice Prince “Super Cool Cats is beyond a music label, as we are already working with fashion designers, video directors etc.; it is in fact a full platform for different expressions of the arts” He also mentioned that he is already working on an urban line with Seyi Sanusi popularly known as “Sneaker Boy”. Jesse Jagz was cool, calm and all smiles as he told the press that being an artist under a large label limits his creativity, but that having his own record label gives him more creative freedom and control on his content.

CHECKNG VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: A NECESSARY TOOL FOR PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENT

It just seems everything is collapsing rather too fast. Right from the devaluation of naira, to fuel scarcity and hike in the price of today’s gold- “petrol” luckily if found, to the inter-state and intra-state kidnapping of girls involuntarily for illicit engagements and dealings and the continued drama of the corrupt leaders in our country Nigeria. When are we ever going to heave a sigh of relief? When and what time in particular are we going to weather the storm of all these challenges posing threats to the development of our dear nation?
Quenching the fire to a problem automatically sprouts another, which obviously happens in our country and maybe other states too. It was firstly the case of Kidnap of some girls from their school, and it’s rather excruciating that some of them haven’t been found up till date. It’s also necessary to say that military men have tried their best in securing some girls from the hands of the callous and obdurate sect. But it wouldn’t be enough until the girls are all fully granted the chance of breathing the air they were used to before. While still trying to quench the problem on ground, another as surfaced just as I said above. Why would a person think of relocating to another state with the daughter of another family without due consent? What case do we call this?
Women and girls have been faced with serious challenge all over the globe and Nigeria is definitely not an exception. One of which is the case which happened recently, when a man had to relocate to another state with another family’s daughter and not even stopping at that, it was claimed that he even tried to change her faith and all that…one begins to ask what type of a country we are in? Or what type of people the country we are in accommodates? Whichever suits.Violence against women and girls, irrespective of what community, country or continent where one lives, is one of the most pervasive challenges facing humankind. The consequences across society, from the individual to nation-states and regions, demonstrate the range and severity of the crisis: One out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime. Girls and young women who are victims of sexual violence can be limited in their educational opportunities and achievements, affecting their capacity to earn a viable income. When women and girls are oppressed by violence and intimidation, businesses and government agencies are impacted — from employee absences, security costs, prosecution of alleged perpetrators, and increased poverty from a shrunken workforce of female citizens unable to work at their full capacity. Further, women who have experienced violence are at a higher risk of HIV infection. A critical survey several years ago among South African women showed that those who were beaten by their partners were 48% more likely to be infected with HIV than those who were not beaten. (Jimmie Briggs; Ending Violence against Women and Girls.)Jimmie Briggs- an activist against women and girls violence opined that sexual interaction without consent or rape as taken over the day, emotional abuse, economic control, political disenfranchisement, denial of the right to education, as well as denial of independent movement or action not leaving out physical violence are just a few of the problems women and girls have to battle. In a society that has an integral part of it posed with these challenges what do you think? With all the problems lined up for possible solutions in our dear Country, do we have to add other unnecessary problems like the ones listed above? Blogs won’t have fascinating features without having to feed readers with cases of physical assault on women or girls. If you don’t read of one which relates to rape, you will read of a man who poured acid on his wife for reasons best known to him, or other cases like denial of sex resulting into merciless beating. Why the molestation?
Often, violence against women and girls is fostered by negative constructs of masculinity and manhood, which lead men to believe they must hold certain qualities and exhibit behaviour which is typically harmful to others, and sometimes themselves. For example, physical strength and sexual prowess can be used as indicators of whether or not someone is a “real man,” as well as economic viability — being able to provide for oneself and family — and, having recognized authority or power beyond oneself. (Jimmie Briggs) I seem to agree with Briggs on this point, most assaults faced by women in their respective homes is as a result of that “masculine power”. The power that makes a man feel because he feeds a woman, he can treat her anyhow, even to the extent of beating her when she isn’t cooperating. Is that what masculine power is supposed to king on?Women and girls are not objects of molestation and shouldn’t be treated as such. I don’t know of any faith that has recommended or supported the discrimination and violence against women and girls, and I am sure there is none. Women and girls are objects of respect, regards, and relevance and they should be treated as such. Take a look at countries that don’t trample upon the rights of women, what is known of them? Economic buoyancy, stabilised society, peaceful atmosphere and all round development just to mention a few. I believe every man remains sane until the day he raises his filthy and vomity hands on a lady…Let’s all say no to violence against women and girls in our society!

GOOD GRADES AND CERTIFICATES: WORRIES OF TODAYS STUDENTS.

It’s so pathetic and uncomprehend able how students of higher institutions depend solely on their grade points or cumulative grade points to help them out in the race for sustenance outside school.
As a student of a higher institution, a federal institution for that matter, because you may want to think my research setting isn’t broad enough. I have come to the realisation that students don’t think out of the box. They only seem to ruminate and ponder on the present while living the future to work its way out.  It’s that bad that they value the grade points even more than the final certificate they will be entitled to at the end of their academic pursuit. All this isn’t to mean that I am not a fan of education, because I wouldn’t want to try ignorance either, all I am emphasising and accentuating on is the fact that students of this dispensary are “hind sighted”.
It’s crystal clear that the society we have found ourselves in today has nothing to offer, why then do we dogmatically follow a line to creating more difficulty to the problematic society? Countless graduates are out there without anything to put food on their tables, and this are the same people who passed through higher institutions like the present hind sighted ones. Yet the latter doesn’t seem concerned about the situation, all he or she fights for is making it out brilliantly and joining in the tussle out there, how myopic this is.
I quite agree that you have to be intelligent, it’s one thing the society requires, also coming out with good grades isn’t a bad idea, but coming out of a universe into another without having anything learned to implement in the next stage of life is what is of paramount importance in this discuss. Higher institution is a universe on its own, so good it has all you can think of. The problem then is why someone would pass through a system for years and have nothing to produce for those years other than a good grade point metamorphose into a good certificate. We have seen graduates who have graduated with good results and yet have carved niches for their selves outside the school universe. Isn’t that interesting to hear?
A young man graduated just recently from the University of Ilorin, he graduated with a first class from the progressive faculty of law. You would think he has made himself a hot cake, of course he is, but the society we are doesn’t recognize that, and so you have to help yourself out. Do you know what this guy did? He helped himself grow in the craft of writing and blogging and today he can drop his law certificate and face what has brought food to his table. And that is basically my point; he doesn’t have to keep throwing his certificates here and there.
There are so many things to learn in higher institutions, some become better writers, a particular set invest their time in entrepreneurship, and some learn political crafts and a host of others help their selves in other aspects. How then do we still have graduates who still depend on government or people for job?
When a deep insight is given to how students of developed nations balance work and schooling together a lot would be understood. Most times it’s not about the money it’s about the experience they gather, and how they can use that in making their selves better people and a less burden to their society. Would you even dare try that in academic settings in Nigeria? That’s not my route on the discuss; my say is about students who don’t get anything done when in school, most of who regret at the end. I know of a young man, who does more than enough for himself to become a better person, and with hard work, dedication and academic seriousness, he has climbed heights today. Many of the great men and women we see out their today, taught of distinguishing their selves while in school. You have first class in English language; do you know how many other first class students each university will produce from that same department? The point is you distinguishing yourself from others.
Wouldn’t it be mind perturbing to see someone who isn’t doing something to make him or herself a better person advising a foresighted student that he or she wastes a lot of time? Everything that brings about success is regulated; it just doesn’t come out of mistake. For a person to be foresighted, they surely would be academically sound, don’t you get? “It takes only a sound mind to think in a sound manner”.
It should be noted that some parents are the cause of the narrowed thinking of their children. They would tell their children to read and careless about the future, as if that was the way their own success flew at them. Seriously parents should begin thinking otherwise, let this children face little tasking situations in school to see how well or bad they may tackle those times. No wonder some higher institution students call their parents at the slightest challenge. Now tell me, how such unrefined students can input changes in the society.
Come to think of it, people complain of not getting employed, they complain of been turned down at any opportunity and they can’t give solutions to applied questions or simple questions during interviews, this are the “GP PEOPLE” or the “FISRT CLASS IS A MUST SET”. What are we then saying? Should you be in the post of a general manager, would you employ those set of people? And as a matter of fact, what then is there impact to the society?
It’s simple, if you leave the system- Universities, Polytechnic, Monotechnics, College of educations etc. without feeling the necessary holes, there is much possibility for regrets. No wonder why some lecturers compulsory presentations in their grading patterns, this is for no other reason than to build students. It is high time students thought about the benefits in thinking outside the box than been myopic and narrow-minded in reasoning.
